Despite the fact that I still have quite a few weeks – err, months – to go in this pregnancy, I can’t help but think about the babymoon. I live for travel so it sort of is expected that this would be my focus. Diapers? Being a good mom? Laboring a baby? Eh, whatever. The vacation? YES, PLEASE! Oh and btw, if you are a normal person who doesn’t know what a “babymoon” is, here you go, per the most reliable source, Google:
A relaxing or romantic vacation taken by parents-to-be before their baby is born OR
A period of time following the birth of a baby during which the new parents can focus on establishing a bond with their child.
I am talking about the former, here, obviously. Note, you can easily substitute “babymoon” with “romantic getaway” or “vacation with my husband” at any point during this blog.
I did a little research. Asked some friends. Used my professional – and personal – travel expertise (14 years in the biz helps). And here are 5 babymoon ideas, from sunny resorts to urban adventures, that are great options for both babymoons and romantic getaways alike 🙂
Manchester Village, Vermont. Weren’t expecting that one, were ya? Well, I have been here 3-4 times and it, quite frankly, is one of my favorite destinations in the U.S. Fly into Albany. Amazing 50 minute drive. Stay at The Equinox Hotel. Shop (antiques, outlets, you name it). Walk. Spa (for her). Golf (for him). Eat (local, organic, amazing, for all). Truly a hidden gem, slower pace and mom and pop restaurants that the baby in your belly will definitely appreciate.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Direct flight from most cites in the US. The sun is always shining. The Sheraton Hacienda del Mar, Los Cabos, is one of my all-time favorite hotels specifically because of their fish tacos, gorgeous pool, perfect location between Cabo and San Jose del Cabo and beyond friendly staff.
Montreal, Canada. Because you likely can’t get to Europe and this is the next best thing. If you haven’t been, go. Stay at the W Hotel Montreal. Pretend you know how to speak French. Shop at chic children’s stores. Eat steak frites. Feel like you are worlds away in just a 2-4 hour flight, depending on where you live. Oh and warning, this would not be relaxing, per se. Rather, more of an urban getaway. Don’t worry, you can still sleep in.
Scottsdale, Arizona. Solely for The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. This hotel is stunning, featuring all the fixings for a perfect babymoon. Pools, Agave Spa, Westin Workout, prestigious golf course. And last but not least, the hotel is a short walk to the Kierland Commons, home to shopping and dining and buying all sorts of cute stuff for that baby. Hint: bring an extra bag for all the shopping!
Aspen, Colorado. Yes, I am recommending a ski town for a babymoon. I have never been to Aspen but constantly hear how beautiful and amazing it is, especially the St. Regis Aspen Hotel (which is where I would recommend staying and is a Forbes Travel Guide Four Star Rated Hotel). It may seem odd to go to Aspen and not ski, but I can get on board. Sleeping in, hot coffee, spa days, shopping, tons of outdoor beauty, cocoa by the fireplace, the opera house and the list goes on.
This is my start and will share more as I continue to explore where we will have our babymoon! Happy travels!
